Dr. Daniel C. Krawczyk
- Professor of Psychology
- Debbie and Jim Francis Chair in Behavioral and Brain Sciences

This chair was established in honor of Debbie and Jim Francis.
“Since coming to Dallas, my work and career have grown a great deal through the collaborative efforts available at UT Dallas. The structure of BBS enables new opportunities in research and a coming together of a diverse group of minds over challenging neurological problems.”
Dr. Daniel C. Krawczyk’s research examines higher cognition, human values and decision-making. His work has spanned multiple fields, including cognitive assessments, game-based simulations, social cognition, human reasoning and how expertise affects people’s thinking.
Krawczyk uses a variety of methods — including brain stimulation, eye-tracking and survey measures — to learn more about people’s psychological lives. In addition to publishing numerous scientific articles, he is the author of two books. In 2017 he wrote Reasoning: The Neuroscience of How We Think. In 2019 he co-wrote Understanding Behavioral Bia$: A Guide to Improving Financial Decision-Making.
“My core motivation is to make discoveries about the mind and brain while also gaining insights into disease. A large driving force in my career is to take what we learn from our research and find new ways to treat disease and improve brain functions,” said Krawczyk.
Krawczyk received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the State University of New York at Fredonia in 1998, followed by master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of California, Los Angeles, in psychology (cognitive neuroscience) in 2000 and 2003, respectively.
After completing a Ruth L. Kirschstein Postdoctoral Fellowship at UC Berkeley, he joined The University of Texas at Dallas as an assistant professor. He has also served as deputy director of research at UT Dallas’ Center for BrainHealth.
